Girls Director of Coaching

Coach Chet Gapcyznski has spent his entire adult life working with young people.   He began his coaching career in 1980 as a volunteer while a freshman in college in Rochester, NY.  In 1984 he moved to Schenectady, NY to become the Athletic Director for a small private school.  During his time in Schenectady Coach Chet began an inner city outreach program that marked the next 17 years of youth work. There is no greater joy than impacting the life of a young person in a positive way,” said Coach Chet. In 1991 he and his family relocated to Murrysville, PA where he became the youth pastor for a large church in Plum.

Coach Chet never ceased broadening his coaching career both at the high school ranks and in club soccer.  In 1994 he joined ranks with a startup club, IFC, becoming the girls DOC.  In 2001 he became president of IFC and the soccer operations manager of PISA in Harmarville, PA.  Coach Chet remained involved in high school soccer coaching at Franklin Regional for 10 seasons and at North Allegheny for 11 seasons.

In 2007 Coach Chet began a partnership with Jim Bouchard and Esmark, and in the spring of 2008 FC Pittsburgh was born.  He is a member of the FC Pittsburgh Board of Directors and serves as its vice president, and is also the girls director of coaching.   In addition to helping run the daily operations of FC Pittsburgh, Coach Chet has served many ears as a PA West state head coach and as a Region 1 staff coach for the Olympic Development Program.  Gapcyznski holds a USSF National “B” license along with a “Director of Coaching” diploma from the NSCAA.

During Gapcyznski’s coaching career, his teams have consistently reached playoff berths both in high school and in club soccer.  However, it is Coach Chet’s most prized achievements to see the long list of players he has touched who have reached much loftier goals than youth soccer, including those who have played in college, on Regional and National teams, and even in women’s professional soccer.  Coach Chet said, “I believe it is my ultimate goal to equip young people today with all of the tools needed to reach said individuals full potential. This is not just in soccer, but off the field as well.  We are merely kicking a ball. The true value in kicking that ball is taking home life’s lessons that build a foundation for success in any endeavor that any young person chooses to follow.”
